She was the founder of natural history in Germany. She started having visions at the age of three. Instructed by God, she wrote her visions down in a book called Scivias (Know the Way). She wrote visionary theology, botanical and medicinal works, supervised illuminations of her work, and wrote choral music that is still produced today.
