The watercolor portrait on this card depicts St. Rita, known for her persistence in maintaining her faith throughout very difficult challenges of life, including a difficult marriage, the murder of her husband, and the loss of both of her teenage sons. She is shown in her habit, where she spent the last 40 years of her life living out her second vocation in an Augustinian convent.
Roses adorn the border of this artwork, because toward the end of St. Rita's life, a relative asked her if there was anything she could get for her. She asked for a rose from the garden of her family's home, even though it was winter. Miraculously a single rose found and brought to her.
